The Problems

POS: HomeBird have a physical shop with a point of sale system (POS) for stock management, their old website worked in a more manual and basic eCommerce store.
Outdated: Whilst HomeBird have branding, the site didn’t reflect that or carry any elements aside from the logo.
Time: Given the outdated eCommerce system the team spend a lot of time manually tracking stock and often have to email users to tell them items were out of stock.

The Goals

Design: The brand identity had to be used and the online store had to have some cohesive look to match the physical shop.
POS: To connect the POS to the website and make stock tracking automatic.
Products: The products added on the POS needed to be automatically added and removed on the website.

The Results

  • Automation: We created a custom plugin which passed data from the POS to the website and from the site to the POS. This allows the products to only be added once at the point of sale level. Stock was also counted and updated across the site and POS.
  • Design: The new user-friendly design and easy purchase options ensured record online sales for HomeBird month on month.

Conclusion

The HomeBird eCommerce store with the custom POS plugin now is almost completely automated and has given the team more time to continue to grow HomeBird and focus on marketing and socials. The site is now carrying the brand and colour scheme and gives a more professional and cohesive look and feel.
